Play the flute!
Flute lessons are available in person at my home in the South Tabor neighborhood of Portland. Online flute lessons are available through FaceTime or Zoom. All ages and skill levels are welcome. I teach the basics for beginners. For advanced students I can teach classical interpretation, improvisation, and music theory.
I have been playing the flute since I was in 2nd grade. I’ve been performing professionally on the flute for over 30 years. As a young person, I was classically trained by Pam Endsley of the Colorado Symphony. Later, I discovered jazz and improvisation. My diverse background allows me to teach a wide variety of students with different musical interests.
For young beginners, we start with simple melodies. I believe in playing real music as soon as possible. For students with some experience, I am able to tailor the lessons to their own needs and learning styles. I’m also able to accompany students on piano or ukulele. This makes learning more fun and gives the students practice playing with other people. Most of my students who are in school band find that they take a big leap forward when they start taking private flute lessons.
I get a lot of adult students who used to play flute in school and want to return to the instrument. Many of these students find that they are able to find a new level in their playing when they take private flute lessons. Get out your instrument, and you may be surprised by how much you remember!
There is nothing like private flute lessons to raise the level of your playing, whatever your age or current skill level. Only private flute lessons give you the personal attention and tailored instruction that you need to take the next step in your playing.
The flute is a beautiful, versatile instrument. It’s fun and relaxing to play, and easy to take with you. Take a few lessons and start playing today!
